Richard Carter, Head of Finance and Sustainability, Adnams
Richard is head of finance and sustainability at Adnams plc, an award-winning brewery and distillery based in Southwold and famous for its eco-distribution centre, its energy efficient brewhouse and its 240,000 honey bees. Adnams describe themselves as a values-led, purpose-driven business.
Richard holds a first class accounting degree from the University of Wales and subsequently qualified as a chartered management accountant. He held a series of commercial finance and controller roles at BT before joining Adnams in 2012. A prominent member of the executive, Richard ensures that environmental and social engagement are an integrated part of the finance function.
Recent projects at Adnams have included massive carbon and cost reductions from being the first UK brewery to produce carbon and water footprints for its beers, achieving zero waste to landfill, having the lightest ale bottles in the UK and continuing energy improvements across its estate. Adnams are one of the first UK companies include social return on investment in its business cases and focus on being an engaged corporate partner rather than simply a financial sponsor of charitable affairs.
