Communicating integrated thinking category

What

As a leading power generation company in South-East Asia for over a century, CLP Holdings believes that through its long-term perspective, integrated thinking has always been how it manages the business and is part of its daily operations.

Why

It has driven major change through renewable energy business, for example, and this enables clear communication from not just a financial perspective, but also from an operational and sustainable perspective.

How

The company was one of the first 50 companies to pilot the IIRC integrated reporting framework and has worked hard since to increase the incorporation of more environmental and social issues in its report.

Challenges

The main challenge was to increase investor engagement on environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) issues, when so often financial and operational performances are the prominent areas of interest.

Judges’ comments

CLP clearly recognises the issues of civil society and the environment. To address this it has adopted the UN Global Goals for Sustainable Development in its business plan and is using integrated reporting principles to reflect its long-term focus.
